With supercharger V8 firepower to match the RAM TRX (what’s a 2-hp delta when you’re in the 700 club, right?) and a very mild re-work of the chassis and suspension to handle the extra weight over the front axle, the F-150 Raptor R rips across all terrain and occasionally leaves it (“yeehaw”).

Red “R” badges and a larger hood bulge are about the only giveaways that you’re looking at a $39K pricier version of the Raptor, but you’ll never confuse the two from behind the wheel.

Anecdotal explanation: my 0-60 run in 3.8 seconds (slight uphill and a simple mashing of the throttle, btw) sent the leading 37-inch tires squirming with torque-steer like the Raptor R was a 300-hp front-drive hot hatch.

Perhaps equally impressive is the daily drivability. Excellent visibility in all directions pairs with supportive chairs and an agreeable tune of the FOX live valve suspension.

Markups and production limitations will keep this $100K truck out of the hands of many for a while, and in the meantime, I’d recommend the TRX, but when prices do settle down, it’s the friendlier daily Dino with just as powerful a bite.
