It’s getting painful how often I have to pinch myself. Yes, I’m awake, and yes, I’m driving another incredible sports car.

That’s the usual song and dance, at least. But each time I get behind the wheel of a 911, I’m never unsure of reality. The drive is too earnest, too connected, and too familiar.

The Carrera is a benchmark. I step away to encounter the best competitors, nearly convinced more than once that the bar has been raised. Sometimes, in some ways, it has been. But then I climb back into the 911 and remember just how absolute, how finished a performance product this is.

The revived Touring (T) grade is one of the best flavors, too. With the base car’s 379 horsepower turbo flat-6, a standard 6-speed, less weight (g’bye rear seats), a unique exhaust, and LSD, the 911 T has everything a purist wants, and nothing superfluous.
